Under general supervision, perform specialized skilled work in the operation of a variety of complex motorized heavy equipment used in the disposal of refuse at the County landfill and other assigned duties of supervisors. This position is responsible for landfill operations, site preparation, land preservation and drainage control for new and undeveloped landfill areas. This position may require rotating shift to include weekends and Holidays.
Operates equipment such as front-end loader, articulating dump truck, excavator, compactor, bulldozer, scraper and motorized pan to spread, pack and cover refuse and debris and other related tasks
- Constructs and prepares new and undeveloped areas for future landfill sites including grading, seeding and policing the site for erosion control and beautification purposes
- Performs routine preventive maintenance of equipment
- Installs drainage pipes at new and completed sites to insure proper drainage
Must have a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and two years experience in the operation of motorized heavy equipment.
OTHER REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITIES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Minimum of one (1) year of heavy equipment/vehicle operating, or comparable experience.

Assist with the repairs and maintenance of vehicles and heavy equipment. Duties include but are not limited to: Assist with the repairs and maintenance of vehicles and heavy equipment. Duties include but are not limited to: disassembly of diesel and gasoline engines as necessary to inspect, repair, rebuild or replace any or all parts. Repair clutches, transmissions, differentials, compressors, pumps, filter units, blowers, generators, governors, reduction gears, hydraulic systems, braking and steering systems, cooling and electrical systems.
- Repair various specialized mechanical and hydraulic equipment, such as crawler tracks and drives, winches, backhoes, long arm hydraulic mowers, garbage compactors, scrapers, bull dozers, roll-off trucks, automobiles, dump trucks and other equipment

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for work at nine different convenience centers throughout Berkeley County, on weekdays, weekends, Sundays and Holidays. This position will not routinely be assigned a permanent position or permanent work hours at one convenience center site. Hours and location will be assigned at the discretion of the supervisor. This position requires cleaning office and maintenance of convenience center grounds.
- Performs grass cutting using both push and riding lawnmower, trim weeds and shrubs using both manual and power trimmers, sweep, and rake

Under general supervision, assist the Environmental Systems Operator in the operation of the water and/or wastewater facilities. This position requires the entry and exit of manholes and other confined spaces, and the ability to operate motors, pumps, valves and other specific equipment associated with the treatment process. This position is operates on a rotating shift schedule.
Receives customer complaints over the phone, and coordinates services/repairs with various crews
- Receives, monitors, and mixes chemicals utilizing a forklift, and load HTH chlorine drums into the back of a standard pickup truck
- Performs routine maintenance and cleaning tasks with a variety of hand tools for equipment, buildings and grounds
- Maintains and calibrates testing equipment
- Collects samples and maintains proper documentation as required by DHEC
- Records flow, rainfall, and other data, changing charts as required by DHEC
- Performs visual and auditory inspections of plant equipment and maintain appropriate logs

The selected applicant will work closely with senior staff members in order to obtain this certificate. There will be training classes held with study material on a frequent basis on site with some studying expected on his/her own time.
